Travel is always better with two, but with travel being so hectic this time of year, it can seem difficult to find places that accommodate your dog and fur-babies. If you’re travelling with pets this year, be sure to buckle them up, and consider swinging by one of the best dog-friendly vacation spots in America:
1. Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is a hot U.S. vacation spot for people and dogs alike. All-season activities are available for you and your pooch so you always have something to do. Dog-friendly kayak rentals are available, and Tahoe XC Ski Park even offers off-leash trails for cross-country skiing.
2. White Sands National Monument, NM
Swap out snow for sand this Christmas! Or… Gypsum? Known as New Mexico’s top dog-friendly attraction, White Sands National Monument is actually the world’s largest gypsum dunefield. Dogs are invited to explore ALL the trails in the park and there are many pet-friendly hotels and campgrounds in the immediate vicinity. This is a fantastic and low-trafficked opportunity to get some relief from the cold and have some fun in the sun with your pup.
3. Aspen, CO
For a true “winter wonderland,” Aspen is tried and true for legendary, world-class winter vacations. Luckily, many resorts, hotels, and AirBnbs in the area understand our love of dogs and offer accommodations for them while you ski. If you’re feeling indulgent, The Little Nell offers accommodations like pet room service, personal dog beds, and even altitude assistance for pups feeling jet-lagged.
4. Stowe, VT
Over 70% of Vermont households own dogs! With that in mind, you can be sure that Vermont has both you and your dog covered for holiday travel. Stowe is famous for their mountain access, year-round trails, and dog-friendly gondolas. That’s right! The Gondola SkyRide in Stowe, VT allows leashed dogs to ride along. Enjoy the views.
5. Huntington Beach, CA
Enjoy bliss on the beach and 70° weather all year round. Huntington beach is famous for big wave surfing, but after you’re done catching those rad barrels, check out one of the local dog-friendly patios. Many restaurants in the area offer with-dog dining on select patios. Huntington even offers an exclusive off-leash dog beach just like an off-leash dog park!
No matter where you end up this holiday season, you can be comforted knowing that your dog is safe and welcome in many places. Happy traveling!
